Slow Down And Live Life

People get caught up in their daily lives that they forget to slow down and enjoy life. That's when we become stressed, overworked, and left feeling like we are disconnected with those around us. Since purchasing our vacation home in 2016, I have learned to let go of the small stuff and really relax. This pas summer I decided to bring up my actual camera and just get lost in the woods in the back of our property. Not that I was lost, but lost in the scenery, the wildlife, the silence. After my time in the woods, I felt refreshed and excited for life again.

When you take time to take in your surroundings you find things that have been there all along. Had I not taken the time to explore our property, I wouldn't have noticed that there were woodpeckers in the tree right behind our vacation home. Mom and dad were flying in and out of the tree taking care of their new, very loud, babies. I was able to keep my distance and stood behind a tree waiting to get a picture of one of the happy parents coming out of the tree to find more food for their new family.

I never realized how many birds we have here in Michigan. I'm only used to seeing Robins, Cardinals, and Blue Jays along with Sparrows. It wasn't until I decided to really look at my surroundings that I found several kinds of birds that have probably been there all along, I just didn't notice. How can you not notice the world around you? How can you not notice the beauty that is in the world you live in? These birds were so bright, beautiful and sang such beautiful songs. To be free and not care what others think about you, wouldn't that be the life? To be able to go where you want and not have a care in the world, to see things that no other can see? WOW, what a life these birds have.

Even the birds that you might not find beautiful, such as a Turkey Vulture, I found to be beautiful. There this bird is, soaring in the wind and sky above me, enjoying life from above. Back and forth in the sky, looking for their next meal or just having fun in flight. I must have looked so small in the world this bird was seeing. That's how I want to look at problems I may have, small in such a big world. We tend to get hung up on things that we make bigger than they really are. Write down you problem on a piece of paper, lay in on the ground and take flight like this bird, that problem because so small that it doesn't even matter. Learn to let it go and your world will seem so much bigger than that little issue. Focus on the beauty in life.

Now, I never stopped to take in the world around me but as you can see, the world is beautiful. Life is beautiful, peaceful and bigger than what we think it is. Looks don't matter, fights don't matter, trying to be perfect doesn't matter. Life matters. Now go live it!!
